I am sick of this social media parade. Of this big fat liking-commenting-following festival to try to draw attention. Look at me, look at me! Everyone is so wrapped up around their own belly button that they cannot for one second drop their smartphone to see what is going on in the world. Or even in their own backyard. We are becoming so fake that robots could replace us — and sooner that you think. No more real feelings, only make believe tailored to get a certain reaction— that should be easy to replicate by science.
The masses don’t care if you are talking about a real topic, no one wants to debate, they just want to be famous. It is time to wake up though: the elite we are trying to resemble uses its fame to do something worthwile — at least most of it does. From extravagant Nicki Minaj, to classic Reese Witherspoon, to mildly controversial Jesse Williams — they all have beliefs, causes that they are fighting for, they are taking a stance.
Wise men speak because they have something to day; Fools because they have to say something ~ Plato
Social media is a very powerful tool. The messages we convey can reach the entire world — including young minds who are born with a smartphone in hand, and who are like sponges, absorbing everything they see and hear. We have a huge responsibility over what we put out there.
But that’s not where it stops. We are also responsible for what we let into our own mind — the feeds, the news, the influencers. All of this is also shaping our reality. If we don’t pay attention, it is only a matter of moments before we become brainless and careless.
During this age of over-exposure, being mindful — of ourselves and of others — becomes a survival tool. Let’s not use it poorly.
